Supporting Health Equity Responses
While SARS-CoV-2 does not discriminate, it does impact society along existing social and health inequities. Birth Beyond Bars believes in a health equity response to this crisis. Taking leadership from Dr. Camara Jones, we draw from her framework:
(1) valuing all individuals and populations equally—that is, there are no invisible, undervalued, or disposable people
(2) recognizing and rectifying historical injustices
(3) providing resources according to need—not equally, but according to need.
To embody these responses, we are opening up emergency funds up to $500 for those impacted by incarceration at this time for reentry support including: housing, food, transportation, communication with family, and more.
